Loeb Crowned 2007 WRC Champion.Dec 02, 2007

The final chapter of the 2007 World Rally Championship was written in Wales, Great Britain. This last race of the year wasn't easy for the teams. Perpetual rain and strong winds turned the gravel roads into thick mud. Yet the attrition rate was low as most teams played it safe and grabbed what points they could before the final stage.

Playing safe was Sebastien Loeb's game plan this weekend and it worked out in spades. Not taking any risks the Frenchman finished the rally in third and more importantly, he finished the rally as the WRC Champion. Tying the legendary Tommi Makinen's record, Loeb now has four consecutive WRC driver titles, all in Citroen car. Still young for a rally driver he is poised to break the record next year and go down into the history as a legend in his own right. Possibly as the best driver the sport has ever seen.

Sitting next to Loeb since their debut in 2002, Daniel Elena has been invaluable in Loeb's quest for greatness. Without an exceptional co-driver one cannot win so many consecutive championships. These guys work long hours on race weekends, pouring over their stage notes to make them perfect for when their driver attacks them at full speed. Elena is fully deserving of the 2007 Co-driver Championship crown.

Guy Frequelin will be missed by Citroen and the WRC family. Frequelin shaped the team into the powerhouse it's quickly become. Sometimes he was a bit too cautious and worried about finishing an event without incident. Yet he was always first to congratulate his drivers, even if their pace was a bit faster than he might have liked. Frequelin was a French rally driver in his early days and brought experience that was needed to the then young team. Now the team is established and Frequelin feels it's time to retire as Citroen's Team Principle with pride.
